US-headquartered laboratory testing operation ACM Global Central Laboratory has raised its European profile by acquiring Pivotal Laboratories, a long-term partner based in York, UK, for an undisclosed sum.

The two companies have been working together under an exclusive alliance for the last four years. Set up 10 years ago, Pivotal Laboratories offers central laboratory services for clinical trials in Europe, Israel and South Africa, with a particular emphasis on growing its business in Central and Eastern Europe. ACM Global’s central laboratory network already extends to more than 60 countries worldwide.

Jerry Boxall, managing director of Pivotal, said the acquisition would enable the company to enhance its service operations on a global basis “while at the same time remaining true to our core values of flexibility, customer service and excellence in everything we do”.

ACM Global’s systems are already seamless integrated and validated with the York laboratory, including a harmonised international database as well as unified reference ranges, naming conventions and finance and administrative systems, the US company noted.

“Our success and growth in the global market made this an economically viable business decision, and this was the next logical step in our relationship,” commented Art Glenz, president and chief executive officer of ACM Medical Laboratory.

While the acquisition will allow ACM Global to increase efficiency by further standardising and streamlining operations, it should also serve to boost employment in both the US and the UK, the company pointed out.
