More than 950 investigator sites and hospitals in Latin America have been added to goBalto, the online partnering site for the pharmaceutical development and manufacturing sectors.

The proprietary list of Latin American sites is supplied by Clinical Trials Support, a contract research organisation (CRO) based in Chile. The sites are listed under ‘Sourced by Clinical Trials Support’, meaning the CRO has identified them as operating actively in Latin America and maintains information on the sites in its database.

Launched in April 2009, the goBalto site already included more than 9,000 potential service providers, profiled according to their technical capabilities, regulatory compliance record, facilities, equipment and other criteria. The goBalto platform allows users to evaluate service providers, rate companies and post comments to vendors.

Latin America is one of the fastest growing regions for pharmaceuticals, already accounting for around 30% of the global drug market, goBalto noted. According to Carlos Caceres, chief executive officer of Clinical Trials Support, Chile in particular offers shorter regulatory timelines than other Latin American countries, along with “highly qualified” investigators and trial sites.

Based in Santiago, Clinical Trials Support offers project management, monitoring and data management services for study sponsors across Latin America.
