CROS NT, an international contract research organisation based in Italy and specialising in biometrics, has acquired US counterpart Stat-Tech Services, extending CROS NT’s geographic reach while adding a wealth of experience in medical devices.

No financial details were released on the transaction, which should be completed later this month. Stat-Tech will operate as a business segment within CROS NT, trading as ‘Stat-Tech Services, part of CROS NT Group’.

Stat-Tech Services is a specialist contract research organisation providing biostatistics consulting and analysis, clinical-data management, SAS programming/report production, SAS programming solutions, and regulatory support services.

CROS NT’s service portfolio includes biostatistics (methodology, programming and analysis), data management, pharmacovigilance, medical writing and training.

Looking to expand

The Verona-based CRO said it had been looking to expand while maintaining its standards of service excellence.

The acquisition adds a US presence to CROS NT’s existing operations in Italy, Germany, and the UK, as well as critical mass and “extensive experience” in the devices sector, the company noted.

“The experience and quality of the Stat-Tech team will add strong value to CROS NT, adding the important area of Medical Devices to our portfolio and allowing us to improve our services to our existing US customers by being closer to them,” commented chief executive officer and president Paolo Morelli.

Stat-Tech Services is based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and has been providing biometrics services since 1996.

CROS NT “has a high level of expertise to go with a focus on quality and service; so we knew immediately Stat-Tech was joining a great team”, said George DeMuth, one of the founders of Stat-Tech Services and incoming chief operating officer for US operations at the combined company.
