CTI Clinical Trial and Consulting Services, the drug and market development company based in Cincinatti, Ohio that focuses on transplantation, infectious disease, hepatitis, end-stage organ disease, haematology and immunology, has forged the latest in a string of partnerships designed to expand its global reach.

The new hook-up is with Akron Clinical, also based in the US (Bacon Raton, Florida) but specialising in the provision of Phase I-IV clinical development services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as contract research organisations (CROs), that want to run clinical trials in Latin America. Akron already has an operational office in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

While the “global alliance”, as CTI and Akron describe it, will enable the two companies to combine their service offerings and experience base for the benefit of their clients, Akron’s impending expansion of its Buenos Aires operations into Brazil and Chile will also “augment the two firms’ already strong coverage in North and Latin America”, they note.

Earlier this year, CTI extended its speciality drug development and education services across Canada through a partnership with ASKA Research, a local company that manages and monitors Phase I-IV clinical trials in North America. Preceding that were a strategic alliance with Indian CRO Neeman Medical International last December and a partnership with Australian CRO Clinical Network Services in November 2006.
