Canadian contract research organisation (CRO) ethica Clinical Research has opened an office in Mexico City for its Veritas IRB division, which will provide ethics review services in Mexico and countries throughout Central America.
Veritas IRB Mexico will offer the same ethical review services as the division’s Canadian office, backed up by a training programme to reinforce awareness of research ethics among the review board members.
According to ethica, it is also “working diligently” on obtaining Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) status for Veritas IRB in Mexico. The company says it remains the only CRO worldwide to be accredited by the US-based organisation, as well as the only Canadian entity to offer AAHRPP-accredited ethics review services.
The new operation will be co-ordinated by Dr Emma Verastegui, whom ethica described as “one of the leaders of research ethics in Mexico”. Dr Verastegui’s résumé includes a stint as associate director of research ethics for the Mexican National Council of Bioethics.
