ICON, the global provider of outsourced development solutions based in Ireland, has launched a new functional resourcing platform through its DOCS division.

The strategy involves consolidating the company’s resourcing and functional service provision (FSP) solutions under the DOCS banner.

Specifically, DOCS has developed the FSP Delivery Platform, which combines the division’s global resourcing engine with “the processes, quality oversight, systems, and training and governance structures to drive productivity through flexible FSP models”, ICON explained.

The DOCS FSP Delivery Platform also leverages ICON’s “extensive” therapeutic, geographic and functional expertise to ensure greater efficiencies across customer programmes, the company added.

The DOCS FSP business will be led by Barry Balfe, vice president for global programme management. Balfe has 12 years of clinical research experience, including leadership positions in both operations and business development within DOCS, ICON noted.

Growing popularity

“Functional resourcing and FSP continue to grow in popularity as sponsors look for innovative outsourcing strategies that enable them to gain efficiencies and accelerate the development of their pipelines,” commented Colin Stanley, president of the DOCS division.

DOCS’ core competency is “providing highly talented teams with skills and experience that are aligned with the needs of our clients and which seamlessly integrate with their business”, Stanley added.

“Our new FSP Delivery Platform builds on this competency and also allows clients to benefit from the breadth and depth of capabilities and expertise from the wider ICON organisation.”

Global network

The DOCS division specialises in four core service areas – Functional Service Provision, Contract Placement, Permanent Placement and Executive Search – drawing on.a global resourcing network and operational infrastructure that extends across 82 locations in 40 countries.
