Irish contract research organisation (CRO) ICON has broadened its presence in the fast-growing markets of Central and Eastern Europe by opening new offices in Prague (Czech Republic), Kiev (Ukraine) and Bucharest (Romania).

ICON’s network in C&E Europe already includes established offices in Russia (Moscow and Novosibirsk), Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Hungary. The new offices, which are strategically located close to leading teaching hospitals and national clinical research sites, providing access to investigators and patient groups, reflect the “great opportunities and facilities for drug development” to be found in the region, noted Alan Morgan, president of ICON Clinical Research Europe.

These include “large homogeneous patient populations (mainly treatment naïve patients), competitive approval timelines and an important network of highly qualified investigators”, Morgan added.

The offices in Prague, Kiev and Bucharest will be staffed by experienced teams that can offer project management, clinical monitoring and regulatory submission services, ICON said.
