Heavily discounted professional indemnity and errors and omissions insurance is being made available to freelance clinical research associates (CRAs) and clinical trials administrators (CTAs) who are members of the UK-based Institute of Clinical Research (ICR).

The ICR has teamed up with leading clinical research insurance broker Miller Insurance Services Limited and specialist professional indemnity insurer DUAL Corporate Risks to offer the exclusive scheme at rates starting from £600 per year. According to the Institute, this represents a saving of more than £2,000 on most policies, while freelancers will also have the option of spreading their premiums over 10 monthly instalments.

The cover is open to all ICR fellows (FICR), professional members (MICR) and registered members (RICR). Rukhsana Shaikh-Zaidi, chair of the ICR Freelance Special Interest Group, described the arrangement as “a huge weight off the shoulders of many CTAs and CRAs”, noting that the issue of professional indemnity and personal insurance “is increasingly being queried and requested across the industry”.

Updated conference format

The ICR has also announced an updated format for its 30th Annual Spring Conference and Exhibition, which will be held in Birmingham, UK on 17-18 March 2008.

In response to member feedback, there will now be speaker sessions across four distinct streams: Therapeutics, Raising Standards, Sharing Knowledge and Developing Professionals. The redesigned exhibition component will feature an exhibitor theatre, where organisations will have 20 minutes to showcase their new ideas.
