Metrics Research, the Karachi-based contract research (CRO) and site management organisation that recently formed an international alliance with Russian CRO Synergy Research Group, has further extended its reach outside Pakistan by tying up with Seahorse Scientific Services (S3), a UK-based provider of core laboratory data services and regulatory support.

Founded in 2007 by a team of clinical scientists, doctors and commercial specialists, S3 provides clinical research consulting services to the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Headquartered in Leytonstone, London and drawing on strong links with Barts and the London National Health Service Trust, the privately owned company specialises in centralised reading and data-capture services for early- and late stage clinical development, including patient data analysis, visual analogue /digital scales, medical data forms and device data monitoring.

Billed as Pakistan’s first contract clinical research and site management organisation, Metrics Research offers a range of services spanning project management, clinical operations and monitoring, data management, biostatistics, medical report writing, regional regulatory affairs services in Pakistan, the former Soviet Union, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates, quality assurance, training and development programmes for clinical research personnel, and country-specific medical consultancy.

Together the two companies can provide “extensive local networks offering vantage points to conduct first-rate Phase I-IV clinical research” in Pakistan and the UK, they said. The partnership will increase the visibility of S3 in Pakistan and enable Metrics Research to gain a foothold in Europe, added Dr Art Tucker, managing director of S3.

“With S3’s significant consultative experience we anticipate that Metrics Research as a CRO and SMO will gain necessary insight into European and UK regulatory affairs”, supplementing the company’s existing knowledge base in US Food and Drug Administration and Canadian Therapeutic Products Directorate regulations, commented Faisal Roohi, project and business development manager for Metrics Research.

In August S3 formed a strategic partnership with Karmic Lifesciences, a clinical research and development support organisation with offices in Mumbai, India and New Jersey, US, to offer end-to-end drug development support to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies worldwide.
