The NHS R&D Forum in the UK has published a template suggesting minimum requirements for letters granting research permission in the National Health Service.

The document was produced following discussions conducted through National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN) lead research management and governance managers and through the NHS R&D Forum’s Research Governance Working Group.

Now available for use in consultation, the template was issued “as suggested good practice against which NHS organisations may wish to review their existing documents”, the Forum said.

The document covers issues ranging from the date of permission to the list of sites for which permission is granted, conditions of approval, safety and indemnity arrangements, and requirements for project amendments.

The template will be reviewed again in April 2011.
