US-based clinical research organisation PRA has opened a new facility in Swansea that will enable the company substantially to expand its clinical informatics resources in the Welsh city.

PRA has moved from its base in Matrix Court, Swansea, to Llys Tawe on the city’s SA1 waterfront development.

The company is expanding its Clinical Informatics team in Wales by establishing a new multilingual help desk and creating additional positions in the data-coordination, clinical-programming and safety groups.

The plan is for 100 new graduate-level jobs in total, doubling the size of the current Swansea operation, which collects, analyses and interprets data from clinical trials.

Seamless logistics

The move into a new facility is in line with PRA’s key strategic objective of creating seamless logistics, from data collection through to information submission, for its global customer base, the company noted.

The initiative is supported by £1.29 million in business finance from the Welsh Government.

“A number of other locations were under consideration for this important expansion project, so I am delighted that support from the Welsh Government helped secure it for Wales,” stated Edwina Hart, Minister for the Economy, Science and Transport.
