International contract research organisation (CRO) SIRO Clinpharm has significantly expanded its Clinical Trials Supplies facility at its home base in Mumbai, India.

Citing demand from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies for storage and distribution of clinical trial supplies, SIRO Clinpharm has boosted its capacity to 6,200 sq ft of space, “with room for further expansion”. When the CRO opened its clinical trial supplies warehouse in Mumbai in 2003, it was a 1,800 sq ft facility.

The expanded space includes two walk-in cold rooms at 2-8 degree storage, ambient storage at 15-25 degrees and capacity for temperature ranges from -20 to -70 degrees. SIRO Clinpharm has also markedly strengthened its inventory management process using the recently implemented Oracle Siebel CTMS tool, the company noted.

The CRO announced in April that it would deploy Oracle Clinical as part of its clinical data management service offering. This was in addition to the Clintrial (Phase Forward) services offered by the SIRO group’s companies in Europe.

Commenting on the Mumbai expansion, Dr Ajit Nair, president, India Operations, said SIRO Clinpharm had “very recently” partnered with a “global leader in logistics” to support that company’s clinical trial supplies operation in India.

“This broadens our scope by making us part of their global storage and distribution network and increases the platform to work on for our international pharma and biotech clients,” Dr Nair added.
