SIRO ClinPharm, based in India but increasingly making its presence felt in international markets, has formed a strategic alliance with Advanced Clinical Trial (ACT) Solutions, a privately held US company that specialises in oncology drug development services.

The tie-up will enable SIRO to expand its oncology clinical development and patient recruitment expertise to North America, said the Mumbai-headquartered contract research organisation that acquired US-based CRO Global Client Partners in July 2007.

In return, ACT Solutions and its clients will gain access to SIRO’s clinical study management, patient recruitment, data management, biostatistics and medical writing capabilities in India and Europe.

According to Patricia Terek, president of SIRO ClinPharm USA, the CRO’s oncology customers are increasingly looking for access to operational capabilities in North America. “This alliance is the first step for SIRO in creating delivery capabilities in North America,” commented group chief operating officer Dr Chetan Tamhankar.

Set up in 1996, SIRO now has a presence in more than 15 countries spanning North America, Europe and Asia. The company’s international ambitions were confirmed a year ago when it acquired Omega Mediation Group, a medium-sized CRO based in Germany and with operational capabilities in Greece, the Baltic States and Israel.
