UK-based patient recruitment and clinical trial management business Synexus has further expanded its presence in Bulgaria by opening a study site at the St Anne Hospital in Sofia.

Synexus has been operating in Bulgaria since 2007, when it opened a greenfield site in Sofia. The company also runs hub sites in Poland and Hungary as well as the UK, South Africa and India.

Chief executive Michael Fort said the new site in Sofia was the “next chapter” in Synexus’ expansion across Eastern Europe.

“What is so exciting about this development is that we can not only carry out clinical trials for our clients in primary care but we can also undertake selected secondary-care trials,” he commented. “We are working with a number of leading specialists in CNS [central nervous system diseases] and are looking to expand in other secondary therapy areas.”
