US-based contract research organisation (CRO) Synteract has tripled its office space in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina and plans to add up to 30 positions at the US site before the end of 2011.

Based in Carlsbad, California, Synteract also has offices in Research Triangle Park and Prague, Czech Republic. The company has contracted 11,000 sq ft of extra office space at the Research Triangle Park location so that it can better meet the needs of its East Coast US clients with local support and expertise in the same time zone.

Synteract aims to hire local specialists for the Morrisville office with programming, scientific and/or clinical research expertise in the fields of project management, clinical operations, biostatistics and data management.

The Morrisville office originally opened in 2007 and currently has a staff of 14. Synteract employs some 300 people overall and says it is the largest CRO based in San Diego. The company, which focuses in particular on oncology, central nervous system conditions, cardiovascular disease and ophthalmology, expanded its operations outside the US to Prague in 2009.

“The Research Triangle area is one of the leaders in pharmaceutical and biotech development and we hope to capitalise on the excellent scientific, research and programming expertise in that area,” commented Ellen Morgan, co-founder and chief executive officer of Synteract.

“Our West Coast clients know us for our character, integrity and responsiveness and we plan to manage our East Coast operations in the same manner,” Morgan said.
