t+ Clinical, a recently established subsidiary of UK-based telemedicine specialist t+ Medical Holdings, has launched a mobile phone-based patient recorded outcomes solution for clinical trial use at the 44th annual meeting of the Drug Information Association in the US.

Combining a disposable cell phone handset with an automated custom questionnaire engine, t+ Clinical’s PRO solution offer “substantial benefits in both speed of roll-out and real-time technical performance” to contract research organisations and drug discovery companies worldwide, the company claims.

“Using such familiar technology we have been able to generate almost 100% subject compliance, offering further potential savings in subject populations and study duration,” commented president and chief executive officer Tim Clover.

The company was set up last year to market data-capture solutions for late-stage clinical trials to pharmaceutical clients. Its parent, the Abingdon, Oxfordshire-based t+ Medical, says it is the UK’s leading supplier of telemedicine solutions for chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma. These involve “harnessing the power of the patient’s own mobile phone” to monitor symptoms and vital signs.
