US company Velesco Pharmaceutical Services has opened a new facility in Kalamazoo, Michigan to manufacture non-sterile current Good Manufacturing Practice-standard supplies for early-phase clinical trials.

Product offerings will include powder-in-capsule and powder-in-bottle formulations as ointments/creams, oral and topical liquids, over-encapsulation for blinded studies and drug packaging.

The new 10,000 square foot facility in the Kalamazoo Commerce Center, which also includes office space, will enable Velesco to accommodate the growth of its analytical and drug formulation laboratory services, and to provide a full service offering to clients as they move from pre-clinical drug development into the clinic, the company noted.

Velesco also announced that it had transferred its Ann Arbor, Michigan laboratories to the Michigan Life Science and Innovation Center in Plymouth.

Formed in 2007 by former research and development staff from Pfizer in Michigan, Velesco provides analytical method development, drug formulation, stability testing and consulting services to biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
