The 2018 winner of the New Medical Science Liaison of the Year shares his experience with the competition and how it has helped to sharpen his skills.

Alun Davies of Novo Nordisk firstly outlined what sorts of challenges entrants can expect to see during the finals day, he said,

“I found the day interesting, challenging and enjoyable. The first task was a literature review followed by a presentation and questioning – I felt this really sharpened those skills. The second half of the day was spent improving and practicing presentation skills with “The Method”.

Candidates can expect to carry out a mixture of presentations, exercises, and an interview, these will vary between categories. Alun then continued to say that, “This teaching I found invaluable and I have been able to implement what was learned into my day-to-day work presenting clinical data”.

The finals day has been designed by our steering panel of industry experts to ensure that all entrants walk away having partaken in a highly beneficial and rewarding experience. The efforts of the candidates will culminate at the awards ceremony later in the evening where winners will be announced in front of the national medical affairs community.

This year’s finals day will be taking place at the IQVIA offices in Reading on the 5th of December, with the awards ceremony following later that evening at a TBC venue. Alun regarded the ceremony as “a chance to network in a more informal environment and was a fantastic event”.

Rounding off his experience with the 2018 competition, Alun said, “I found the whole experience equally nerve racking, fun and valuable. I would recommend anyone who is considering entering any of the categories to go for it.”

If you would like to get involved with this year’s competition then you can complete a simple entry form – or you can nudge a colleague to enter by nominating them.

Entry will be closing on the 31st October.
