The largest-ever, multi-company pharmaceutical salesforce effectiveness benchmarking event culminated in the announcement of the top medical representatives as judged by NHS customers at a presentation ceremony in London on 5 July.

Thirty-six companies participated in the career development competition across 19 categories. Top wins went to Boehringer Ingelheim with Dianne Lawrence named primary care representative of the year and Galderma’s Charlotte Berry as specialist care representative of the year.

The Representative of the Year Competition, organised by PharmaTimes, is the only customer mediated salesforce effectiveness exercise where doctors are the key determinants of success. Physician portals, Doctors.net.uk, Binley’s and Nursing Times facilitated more than 1,300 doctor nominations for the best representatives in primary and secondary care with 164 finalists participating in a customer assessment exercise organised by PI Partnership through its network of trained NHS physician assessors.

The results for Sales Recruiter of the Year were also announced with Quintiles’ Catherine Scott taking top spot and Chase securing the title of most nominated company for the fifth year running.

Sean Morgan-Jones, director at PharmaTimes, said: “The big idea behind this competition is to provide individuals, the companies they work for and the wider healthcare community with insights and learning about how doctors wish to interact with the industry. If we have a better understanding of what our customers want, we improve our chances of delivering more value, improve both access to drugs and patient outcomes – and perhaps go some way to restoring the industry’s reputation with customers.”

A special report will be published highlighting key learnings from the competition, which can be used as an in-house training tool and will be available in early September.
