Clinical Research Advantage (CRA), a US provider of clinical trial management and other research services to pharmaceutical companies and contract research organisations, has expanded its reach into Colorado Springs with the opening of two local area offices.

Based in Tempe, Arizona, CRA is spread across 23 sites in 12 geographic markets around the US. The Colorado Springs offices are at Colorado Springs Health Partners in Briargate and in Barnes Road on the city’s east side. The company says it plans to open several more sites in the Colorado Springs area by the summer of 2011.

Partnering with a leading medical practice in the area gives CRA access to principal investigators who will conduct clinical trials and maintenance studies in the fields of family and internal medicine.

These will address conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome/diarrhoea, hypercholesterolaemia, type 2 diabetes, acute coronary syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, paediatric influenza and opioid-induced constipation.

In parallel with the office openings, CRA has named Monica Garcia as region manager to head up the Colorado Springs area operations. Garcia has worked with the company for the past six years.

Since CRA was acquired in 2007 by Mark Hanley (chief executive officer) and David Bruggeman (president and chief operating officer), it has grown from six to 23 sites, doubled its employee count and substantially increased its revenue base, the company noted.

“The key to CRA’s success lies in the partnerships we forge and maintain with research departments within established medical practices,” Hanley commented.

“Our model positions CRA’s own research staff and co-ordinators right in the heart of the physician’s office, which helps cultivate the enrolment of reliable, qualified subjects into clinical trials and ensures better compliance, due to the patient’s close proximity to the physicians.”
