More than 60 top researchers from 17 research institutions, global pharmaceutical companies and CROs, including the Grunberger Diabetes Institute, Children’s Medical Hospital Central California, Abbvie, Alcon, Lilly, Chiltern, Covance, INC Research, inVentiv Health Clinical, PAREXEL, PPD and PRA International, will go head to head in the finals of this year’s US Clinical Researcher of the Year, organized by PharmaTimes.

“The US Clinical Researcher of the Year competition highlights and celebrates the utmost levels of professionalism that clinical researchers are contributing to the ethical and responsible conduct of research on the treatments of tomorrow,” says Jim Thomasell, executive director of competition partner and sponsor, the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.

The finalists will compete across five categories – study nurse, new clinical research associate, experienced CRA, project manager and clinical team – for the chance to be recognized by senior clinical professionals and their peers. SAS are hosting the finals at their global headquarters in Cary, North Carolina on 7 November 2013. The awards will be held that evening at Cary’s Umstead Hotel.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for clinical research to showcase their most talented people,” says Carol Parish, senior director, clinical development, head EU and EMAP, Stiefel, a GSK company. And this year, special workshops have been organized for both finalist and non-finalist organizations to provide additional development opportunities on the day, spanning areas such as the use of social media to assist patient recruitment and engagement, using analytics to deliver operational efficiency and data transparency and sharing.

Unique competition

The US Clinical Researcher of the Year competition is a unique competency-based program that invites researchers to compete in a real-life challenge devised by US clinical directors from companies including GSK, Sanofi, AZ, Alcon, Shire, MSD and Endo Pharmaceuticals and professional organizations including the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research, the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, CenterWatch and CORE.

“The competition’s Executive Steering Committee identified strategic partnering as the theme for this year’s competition. The finals provide an opportunity to explore this theme with a group of talented and exceptional US researchers and more importantly to share those insights with the wider global clinical research fraternity,” adds Sean Morgan-Jones, VP Global Operations and Chair of the Executive Committee.
