goBalto, the US-headquartered provider of cloud-based solutions to faciltiate clinical-trial start-ups and workflows, is expanding its international reach with new locations in Singapore and the UK.

The company recently filled several key roles in Singapore and is moving to build a strong team for its office in the island state, it said. goBalto is also hiring in the UK to beef up its Customer Success division.

The new locations mark the company’s “growth into a global services organisation” with a foothold in Asia, “a biotech nerve center and area of substantial market demand”, goBalto explained.

Global push

Last December the company announced the appointment of Sujay Jadhav as chief executive officer (CEO), taking the reins from goBalto founder Jae Chung and positioning the business for “accelerated sales in domestic markets and globally”.

Chung now manages corporate strategy, sales and business development as goBalto’s president, while Jadhav brings experience in integrating software development, life sciences and corporate strategy as former senior vice president of global corporate strategy and development at Model N.

US$12 million financing

The move to Singapore was flagged up in December 2012, when goBalto closed a US$12 million round of venture financing led by EDBI, the global investment arm of Singapore’s Economic Development Board.

At the time, EDBI’s CEO and president, Swee-Yeok Chu, said goBalto’s next-generation solution for clinical-trials workflow would “strengthen Singapore’s position as the Asia Pacific clinical-trials hub by enhancing the efficiency of top-tier sponsors and CROs [contract research organisations] based here”.

The new Singapore team includes expertise in clinical-trial planning and development, systems engineering, and strategic client-relationship management from across Asia, the Middle East, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

“Our expansion into Asia-Pac establishes us as the only study start-up solution provider with a true international presence,” Jadhav commented.

goBalto origins

Chung, a biotechnology industry veteran, launched goBalto in 2008 as an online partnering site for the pharmaceutical development and manufacturing sectors.

The company built on this foundation to launch Tracker, a software-as-a-service platform for managing clinical study start-ups, in March 2011.
