ICON, the global provider of outsourced development services based in Ireland, has announced three appointments to the senior management teams of its Clinical and Central Laboratories businesses.

Joining ICON from another development services provider, Quintiles, is Dr Nuala Murphy, who becomes executive vice president, global clinical operations and data management.

Murphy brings with her more than 20 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical and contract research industries.

At Quintiles she managed clinical research professionals in Europe and Africa as vice president, clinical operations. Murphy has also accumulated over a decade’s experience in therapeutics, having led Quintiles’ central nervous system and internal-medicine project management divisions.

Stepping up as ICON’s executive vice president, global scientific operations is Dr Mark Roseman, who was previously executive vice president of business development at Kendle/INC.

Roseman has more than 25 years of clinical research experience under his belt, with previous stints in senior management positions within both operations and business development at PPD, where he supervised the oncology, cardiovascular, anti-infective, and respiratory therapeutic areas.

Before that, Roseman oversaw all data management, clinical operations, biostatistics and medical-writing activities at CIBA Vision, as well as being responsible for the conduct of the business’s registration trials.

The third appointment is Dr Era Khurana, as medical director for ICON Central Laboratories.

With more than 28 years of pathology experience, Khurana comes to ICON from Quest Diagnostics, where she was director of anatomical and clinical pathology.  She previously served as chief of surgical pathology at South Nassau Community Hospital in New York, US.
