A medical imaging solution tailored to the particular requirements of early-phase clinical trials has been launched by ICON, the outsourced development-services provider based in Ireland.

There is a growing trend of using Positron emission tomography (PET), volumetrics, advanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in early-phase research, which has created demand for more tailored imaging solutions, ICON noted.

The company’s new offering incorporates streamlined mechanisms and procedures to maximise the information collected from image data and ensure it is processed rapidly in line with the shorter timelines of early-phase studies, ICON explained.

Also contributing to better decision-making is the MIRA image-management system, which standardises data from all imaging formats and allows for centralised analysis and interpretation, the company added.

Team of experts

These technologies will be backed up by a team of scientific and regulatory experts led by Dr James Conklin, senior vice president, medical and scientific affairs, and Dr Valerie Treyer, director, medical and scientific affairs.

Between them, Conklin and Treyer have accumulated more than 45 years’ experience in managing medical-image data used in clinical trials, ICON said.
