US-based eClinical specialist Medrio is offering its web-based electronic data capture (EDC) software free of charge for investigator-initiated studies that are university- and/or government funded.
The EDC software, which enables researchers to collect and manage data for clinical trials, registries, retrospective studies and patient web surveys, is available through the Medrio Scholars programme.
“Getting a study database is as simple as visiting scholars.medrio.com and entering an email address,” said programme manager Michael Farr.
Using the Medrio software, university researchers can create and manage their clinical-study data collection themselves, without programming, the company noted.
And unlike “other EDC offerings available to academic researchers”, Medrio supports “extensive study and data management tools, is fully validated and meets the requirements for electronic records and signatures (21 CFR Part 11), HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and the European and Swiss Safe harbour frameworks”.
Industry effect
The offer is not just altruistic. “When researchers use Medrio at university, they are much more likely to select Medrio in industry,” Farr commented.
Medrio provides an integrated eClinical Software as a Service (SaaS) platform with a fully hosted EDC system that “drastically” reduces study timelines and costs by putting managers in control of their trials, the company says.
According to Medrio, the system has been used successfully in Phase I-IV trials, registries and other clinical studies by 12 of the top 20 global biopharmaceutical companies and by “dozens” of universities.
